Cataract is the clouding of the normal lens in the eye that affects vision. It is often associated with ageing and can be cured only through surgery.

● Blurry or cloudy vision
● Difficulty seeing in low light conditions
● Increased sensitivity to glare from lights
● Halos around lights, especially at night
● Fading or yellowing of colours
● Double vision

Cataracts can affect anyone, but certain factors increase the risk:
● People over the age of 60.
● Individuals with diabetes.
● Smoking.
● Prolonged exposure to UV radiation.
● Previous history of eye injuries or surgeries.

The most effective treatment for Cataract is surgical removal of the cloudy lens and replacement with an artificial lens implant.
Phacoemulsification is a modern and gentle Cataract surgery technique that involves making a tiny incision in the eye. Today Cataract surgery is both safe and effective with advanced technologies.

It is a painless, stitch-less, blood-less procedure. The patients gets discharged on the same day and can resume their daily activities early

MICS is a minimally invasive Cataract Surgery technique with incision sizes typically less than 2 mm, leading to fast recovery.

Types of Lenses available at Sunanda Eye Hospital

Monofocal IOLs–

The most common type of lens. They improve only distant vision, and there might be requirement for reading glases for near vision .

Premium IOLs–

Premium IOLs are advanced implants to correct both distant and near vision, reducing the need for glasses.

What Types of Premium IOLs Are Available ?

Aspheric IOLs

Premium aspheric IOLs are the closest to the natural eye’s lens. This is true for both optical quality and shape. As such, they provide sharper vision, particularly in low light.

Toric IOLs

Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or lens is irregularly shaped. Toric IOLs are unique because they are the only IOLs designed to correct astigmatism. This results in clear vision at all distances.

Extended depth of focus IOLs

This lens provides excellent distance and intermediate vision, hence suitable for computer users.

Multifocal IOLs

Unlike standard monofocal lenses, multifocal lenses provide clear vision at near and far distances. This is because multifocal IOLs have different optical powers within the same lens. After these lenses are implanted, the brain takes some time to adjust to the new lenses. After this, the brain can automatically focus between near and far distances.
